Vaiņode railway station was opened with the construction of the Liepāja-Vaiņode railway line in 1871. During the First World War, a branch was built from the station to a military airfield, where zeppelin hangars were built. In the 1920s they were dismantled and transported by rail to Riga for the construction of the Central Market. During the Soviet era, a new branch was built from the station to the Soviet Army Airfield. The branches are currently dismantled. After the Second World War, the importance of this line was no longer so great. Passenger train traffic on the Liepāja - Vaiņode line was stopped in 1998. Today, the Vaiņode railway station building houses the Vaiņode Regional Museum.
