A very interesting territory, from different points of view, is the Nature Reserve “Cenas tīrelis” (Cena Bog). Once it used to be the second biggest bog in Latvia following Teiči Bog. There was a decision made to combine both area of economic activity and the area for nature protection in this territory. Peat extraction in its affected part was continued as it had begun already before the Second World War, and 2,133 hectares of the bog had been divided for the purpose of nature protection. Cena Bog is a very important territory for birds that choose this bog of excellent quality for nesting and feeding. Today, when walking through Cena Bog, you can see a part of these two worlds.
